Gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) and Bloat are life-threatening conditions that can cause a dog to die a painful death within hours of its occurrence. If your regular veterinarian is not open take your dog to the nearest emergency centre as immediate veterinary attention is required.

The most common signs to be aware of are difficulty urinating, increased urinary frequency, bloody urine, urinating in unusual places, abdominal pain, vomiting and collapse. Behavioural changes can include loss of litter training, aggression and straining to urinate.
VIEW FACT SHEETPyometra is a condition found in unsterilized female pets where the uterus fills with pus. It is triggered by a heat cycle that doesn't end in egg fertilisation and caused by an excessive amount of progesterone or hypersensitivity of the uterus to progesterone. Dogs typically start showing signs of the disease within two to four months after the heat cycle. Cysts develop in the lining of the uterus and release large amounts of fluid into the uterus. The accumulated fluid can spark a secondary bacterial infection. This condition can be life threatening if left untreated.

For you and your pets safety remove object from around them, do not try to control their tongue and ensure that they protected from dangerous objects. There are many different reasons why family pets have seizures and can be associated with toxins and problems both inside and outside the brain. Should your pet have a seizure it is recommended that once the event has passed that guidance from a veterinarian is sought.

There is no need to catch the snake as there are excellent urinary testing available through the wonders of veterinary science.
